PLAYTIME Free things for families every day this summer

All summer the Whitworth will be exploring the art of play. Have a wander and find things to do both indoors and out. With our Splash Studio, giant garden games and a sensory area for babies, there’s something for all the family in a gallery where art meets nature.

Saturday 27 July to Sunday 1 September
Every day 11am-3pm

All events are free and drop-in

Splash Studio
Every day, 11am-3pm

An open studio to experiment and play with water walls, tables and channels kindly donated by our friends at Pentagon Play.

Playtime Baby
Every day, 11am-3pm

Sensory play in the gallery for non-walking babies and their grown ups.

A Grand (parents) Day Out
Friday 2 August, 1-3pm

Bring your grandchildren for water themed activities with Age Friendly volunteers, extra seating and a cup of tea on us.

Mossa Movement
Tuesday 30 July & Saturday 10 August, 3.30-4.30pm

An hour of creative dance, open to all children and families with additional needs.

National Play Day
Wednesday 7 August, 11am-3pm

On top of our Playtime games and interventions come along and play in our park. Try water pistol painting, bubble art and more.

Silent Disco
Wednesday 14 August 12-3pm

Bring your own picnic and then join us for a disco from 1pm. For children and families with additional needs.

Playtime Late: Playtime Late for Grown Ups!
Thursday 22 August, 6-8pm

Playtime Late at the Whitworth: Adults…unleash your inner child!

Our Whitworth Volunteers are taking over the gallery encouraging us all to go back to our childhoods this summer opening its PLAYTIME activities up to adults, giving you the opportunity to have some fun with our splash studio, garden games, creative workshops and soft play; with music and face painting!

There’s something for everyone so join us for an evening of music, games and, most importantly, play.

You might get wet so don’t forget to pack some waterproofs!


My Wild City: Family Bug Hunt
Wednesday 21 August 11am-1pm

Find out about the tiny creatures that live beside us in Whitworth Park.

Whitworth Young Contemporaries Makes
Thursdays, 2-4pm throughout August

Creative, hands on workshops for 11-16 year olds.

Our friends at Pentagon Play have kindly donated the water play equipment for this summer’s PLAYTIME. Pentagon has been inspiring learning through play since 1998 and are specialists in making school playground equipment stimulating and challenging for children.
