Becoming CLIMAVORE at the Whitworth Cafe

Excitingly, the Whitworth is participating in the Turner Prize project by Cooking Sections, here are some details about the project:
 
Cooking Sections is an artist duo, Daniel Fernández Pascual & Alon Schwabe, who examine the systems that organise the world through food. Their project Becoming CLIMAVORE promotes a way of eating that supports the climate, using ingredients that are seasonal to a local area and that replenish the habitat in which they are grown. An example would be pulses like fava beans that are often referred to as 'nitrogen fixers' as they help restore exhausted soils by adding nitrogen.
 
The Whitworth Cafe, along with 20 other gallery cafes across the UK have signed up to Becoming CLIMAVORE. This means that:
• We will keep farmed salmon off the menu
• We will always offer at least 1 Climavore dish on our daily menu – a dish made with locally sourced, climate-friendly ingredients.
 
Peter Booth, Director of The Modern Caterer, The Whitworth Cafe, has created a delicious Climavore Mezze, which is available now as part of the Cafe's autumn menu.
 
Climavore Mezze:
Lancashire curd cheese, local honey
Beetroot hummus
Fava bean falafel
Organic sourdough

About the Whitworth Cafe

Our café is run by Chef and Director of The Modern Caterer, Peter Booth. The seasonal menu takes diners from breakfast through to evening meals, seven days a week. Peter has worked with us for over a decade and his understanding of our commitment to the environment is reflected in his menu: food is locally or ethically sourced from specialist suppliers.

Drop-in for the perfect breakfast, try Peter's own granola recipe or local bakers Trove's organic bread.
At lunch time expect new season produce turned into tasty market salads.
Afternoon tea (booking essential) features homemade cakes – including Peter’s legendary brownies – while every weekend sees an extensive breakfast, brunch and seasonal menu laid on.

Everything is served in our beautiful café and restaurant, a highlight of the Whitworth. Located in the elegant glass and stainless steel extension designed by MUMA, the café overlooks Whitworth Park and our strikingly designed Art Garden. With floor to ceiling windows, this is the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors, whatever the weather.
