    Join us for a special preview of Hyundai Translocal Series: Entangled and Woven and be among the first to experience this major international exhibition at the Whitworth. Explore newly commissioned works alongside historic textiles, meet artists and collaborators, and enjoy an evening of conversation, discovery and celebration.

    Join artists and curators from Hyundai Translocal Series: Entangled and Woven for a guided tour of the exhibition. Offering insights into their practice and the ideas behind the works on display, this artist-led walkthrough explores textiles as carriers of memory, labour and cultural exchange.

    Reflecting collaborations across Korea, India and the UK, the tour invites visitors to engage more deeply with the exhibition’s themes of shared histories and global dialogue.

    Artist Youngin Hong presents an in-depth look at her commission Sacred Empires from Hyundai Translocal Series: Entangled and Woven. Hosted in the Whitworth’s Study Centre, the talk is accompanied by related works from the Whitworth’s collection, offering insight into collaboration, labour and storytelling in textile practice.

    Fields Unspun: Cotton, Empire, and Textile Practices

    Dr Arianna Tozzi, artist Himanshi Parmar and Seema Kulkarni explore the themes of cotton, empire, and agroecology in relation to Hyundai Translocal Series: Entangled and Woven. Combining artistic practices based on natural pigments, archival and oral history research with women farmers in India—alongside textiles from the Whitworth’s collection—the session explores the role of textile arts in unearthing complex colonial histories and narrating alternative futures.
