Manchester Academy Presents... Faces of Our Community
A showcase of work by Manchester Academy students – including portraits of people from the local community.
This sharing event sees the Whitworth hosting a selection of work by Manchester Academy students in the Grand Hall. Part of a three-year collaboration between the gallery and Manchester Academy, with generous support from The Mildred Fund, Faces of Our Community is one of a series of projects looking to recalibrate young people’s relationship with art and their everyday lives.
In this showcase, discover photographic portraits of people from in and around our local community, alongside Art Works: IRL (In Real Life), a collection of artworks created alongside the artist Mishka Henner to explore how AI and artistic practice can be used to question the believability of visual imagery – and make the viewer look twice!
There will also be the premiere of three new films created by young people from the Academy as part of a filmmaking summer course, in partnership with local supplementary school Rekindle. Working with the filmmaker Izzy Pye, students explored their imagined futures through film, ranging from the AI apocalyptic to hope and why art matters.
Free to attend, everyone is welcome to this celebration event!
