Everyday Art School – Venture Arts Artist in Residence

Venture Arts artist Sally Hirst is currently an Artist in Residence in our Everyday Art School gallery where her practice is influenced by the Whitworth’s exhibitions, collections, programmes, and visitors.

Sally is a socially engaged illustrator, textile artist and ceramicist with much of her work being inspired by the people around her.

Sally is particularly interested in social history and retelling the stories of ordinary people from the past. These have included Holocaust survivors, ‘witches’ and Victorian factory workers. She likes to link these stories to her own experiences, such as fostering refugees and living with a disability.

Accessibility is at the heart of everything Sally creates. Such as writing audio descriptions in the form of poetry, writing easy reads, and delivering neurodivergent friendly tours.

You can find Sally most Thursdays in our Everyday Art School space on our Mezzanine.

Sally would like to welcome everyone to come and say hello and find out more about her work.
