Leading artists, mathematicians and digital specialists share their expertise. Spark your curiosity and excite young minds with our masterclass series.

We work with leading researchers and academics at The University of Manchester to bring you an ambitious Masterclass series that could only happen here at the Whitworth. The Whitworth is a gallery that places outstanding research and learning at its heart.

Maths Masterclass, 29 October – 2 November.

The Whitworth are teaming up with the University of Manchester’s School of Mathematics to bring new, innovative ways of relating art and maths. Construct objects, explore pattern finding, measure dimensions and learn how 2D shapes can inform 3D objects in this Masterclass programme.

The School of Mathematics is one of the largest mathematics schools in the UK, with more than 1000 undergraduates, 150 postgraduates and 90 academic staff. The school has a rich heritage with education and research.


Remix Music Masterclass, 15 – 19 July.

Play the Whitworth’s building and remix your world. Working alongside mulit-disciplinary artists, unlock your artistic capacity and create your own unique piece of sonic art with Pyka assisted by students from the University of Manchester.

Pyka are multi-disciplinary artists who work with schools reconnecting learners to their own creative capacity.

The Music Department at the University of Manchester is a vibrant community of entrepreneurial students, world-leading academics and professional performers whose combination of specialist practical music-making and research-led teaching makes it one of the best in the UK.
