Małgorzata Mirga-Tas
The Whitworth is proud to present the work of celebrated Roma-Polish artist Małgorzata Mirga-Tas to audiences in Manchester. Mirga-Tas creates narrative-rich works using textiles and fabric, producing vibrant large-scale panels that transform perceptions of Romany culture and history.

Touring Exhibitions

Barbara Walker: Being Here
Following a hugely successful run at The Whitworth (4 October 2024 – 26 January 2025), now touring to Arnolfini, Barbara Walker: Being Here presents almost 60 extraordinary artworks, including rarely seen early paintings of Walker’s family, friends and community in her home city of Birmingham, along with her Turner Prize-nominated monumental drawing series Burden of Proof (2022-23), which illustrates the impact on the lives of those affected by the Windrush scandal.

John Lyons I Carnivalesque
We are delighted to extend the audience for the first major retrospective of Caribbean British artist and poet John Lyons. Curated by the Whitworth, the exhibition is touring to The Box in Plymouth in spring and summer 2025. Spanning six decades, the exhibition surveys Lyons’ contribution to British art, literature and art education, centred on his exploration of Trinidadian folklore and mythology. Accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue, the tour brings greater visibility and recognition to an influential artist and poet who spent 30 years living in Manchester.
