World Menopause Day at The Whitworth: Visible & Vocal
Join us for a vibrant day of conversation, creativity and community as we mark World Menopause Day with a full programme of talks, workshops, and art-led activities.
Together, we’ll explore what it means to be visible and vocal — creating space to share experiences, raise awareness, and celebrate the power of connection.

Arrival and Register | 10.30am – 11am
Panel Discussion | 11:00am – 12:30pm
Hear from inspiring, Manchester-based speakers as they share their personal journeys and reflections on menopause, visibility and voice.
Magdalen Bartlett is the founder of Afrocats and an experienced facilitator dedicated to using creativity as a tool for wellbeing. Saz Domville is a creative psychotherapist, coach, yoga and mindfulness teacher and Creative Health Associate at Edge Hill University. Dr Zoe Hodson has almost 30 years’ experience as a doctor and is a BMS Accredited Menopause Specialist. Anna Hughes is the Ageing Well Lead at George House Trust, an HIV charity based in Greater Manchester and Liverpool. The panel will be chaired by Helen Clare, an artist and menopause expert.

Bring your own lunch, or head to the Whitworth Café or any of the nearby shops for refreshments.
Afternoon Workshops
These include workshops on menopause cloak making, flag and banner making, and dance and movement – as well as a tour of the Whitworth’s exhibitions.
Banner Parade | 4pm – 4.30pm
We’ll finish the day with a joyful parade through the gallery — walking together, bold and visible.

Menopause Creative Meet Up
Are you 45+ or do you have lived experience of menopause? Join us to take part in a textile-based art project and learn how creativity can support you through menopause. We’ll be creating a collaborative piece of wearable art using fabric, thread and yarn. Refreshments served.
