Afrocats x Whitworth present…

A Creative Cultural Experience for All Ages.

Afrocats x Whitworth
May 2024 – Half-term

Afrocats are back! We have partnered with Afrocats, for the May half-term, to bring you a series of music, dance, and craft sessions open to the whole family.

Session dates:

Tuesday 28 May, 12pm-3pm
Wednesday 29 May, 12pm-3pm
Thursday 30 May, 12pm-3pm

All sessions are FREE, drop-in, no need to book.

Join Afrocats and the Whitworth for a vibrant and creative cultural experience for all ages. Shimmy and shake your way through the gallery, taking part in free arts and crafts, storytelling, music, singing, dancing and movement activities. Led by diverse professional artists, this event is a great opportunity to learn about and celebrate culture. The activities are designed to be inclusive and accessible to everyone, regardless of age or experience.

If you are from a refugee or asylum seeker background but will struggle to access this opportunity, please get in touch with Afrocats directly.

This project is funded by Arts Council England.

'It’s been great to have an activity over half term that both little ones and adults can stretch our imaginations with.'

After the session why not explore our exhibitions and collections, visit the Whitworth shop at the gallery entrance or grab a bite to eat in the café.

Each session is free and operates on a flexible drop-in basis so that you can join in the fun at any time.

More about Afrocats
Afrocats is an award-winning charity that supports refugees, asylum seekers, and anyone facing social exclusion in Greater Manchester. Afrocats work with adults, young people, and children, to build agency, aspirations, and opportunities to improve overall life chances through creative engagement.

Afrocats x Whitworth is a powerful partnership that launched in February 2022 to reimagine how the Whitworth connects with local families in a more accessible, inclusive and equitable way.

Using creative engagement to tackle social exclusion in Greater Manchester, this partnership aims to create meaningful change and ensure that the gallery is a space of sanctuary for refugees and asylum seekers so equality and diversity can thrive.

Throughout each school in holiday since 2022, Afrocats artists fill the galleries with culturally inspired music, dance and art activities inspired by the Whitworth’s collections and their own cultures.
