Mind the Art
A Summer residency for 16-25 year olds - exploring art, mental health and wellbeing. Are you aged between 16 and 25 and interested in exploring the power of art and creativity for positive social change? We are looking for a team of creative, curious and socially conscious individuals to work in a project action group with a professional designer. This will be a 6 day, 2 week, summer residency based at the Whitworth.
Dates of summer residency
Wednesday 21 August
Thursday 22 August
Friday 23 August
Tuesday 27 August
Wednesday 28 August
Thursday 29 August
This residency is free, however enrolment is essential.
Please see below for full details of how to book your place.
Through a series of creative exercises and explorations of the Whitworth’s collection behind-the-scenes, you will co-produce a tool-kit to take into schools. This tool-kit could take the form of a ‘gallery in a box’ with miniature versions of artworks from the Whitworth’s collection as well as games and activities that you have designed. The professional designer will be on-hand to turn your proto-types into reality.
The resource will be used to generate non-stigmatising, creative ways for young people to explore mental health and emotional wellbeing, both on an individual and a social level.
There will be an opportunity in the Autumn term to become one of our Mind the Art Advocates, taking the tool-kit into schools across Greater Manchester.
Places will be allocated to the first 15 participants to sign-up.
To sign up or for more information please email Sally Thelwell (Youth Engagement Coordinator) or phone 0161 275 7453 / 07919 560477
All places will be allocated by Sunday 11 August.
