Welcome to Work Shop and Coffee Bar, a place to showcase creative entrepreneurialism.
Grab a coffee, a piece of cake, come in have a chat and explore. Work Shop's first creative residency begins with Bukky Baldwin a new ethical fashion and textiles company built with the aim of breaking negative cycles within marginalised communities through playful and colourful design. Each product in the shop is designed with a hand-made element that is simple enough for someone without experience to be trained to make.

More about Work Shop at the Whitworth
‘Life without industry is guilt, and industry without art is brutality.’
John Ruskin, (1819-1900)
Work Shop is an experimental space looking at artistic creativity in the work we do, the role of the arts in the economy, and the importance of generating income in the running of a not-for-profit organisation such as an art gallery.
Artist, art critic and social reformer John Ruskin believed that art can be used for social change and that creativity would improve the quality of our work. In response to Ruskin’s idea, Work Shop offers an environment to promote and support new creative entrepreneurs as they start out in business.
An aim of Work Shop is to establish a testing ground for mixing both creativity and enterprise, encouraging the relationship between the two, and inviting participation from all who visit the space. We hope to see a lot of new, inventive and surprising ideas in this space, so come in, grab a coffee, a piece of cake, stay for a chat, and ask questions. We’d love to hear from you about your experiences, creative business ideas, and fresh ways of working.
