Playtime: Summer Family Activities



23 July - 31 August, 11am – 3pm 

All summer the Whitworth will be exploring the art of play. Have a wander and find games indoors and out, sensory play for babies, the Whitworth Minecraft and a sandpit studio. There’s something for all the family in a gallery where art meets nature. All activities are free and drop in unless otherwise stated.


Playtime Baby
23 July - 31 August, 11am – 3pm

Bringing the outdoors in with sensory play in the gallery for non-walking babies and their grown ups.


Bee in the City
Saturday 28 July, 1pm – 3pm

Part of the Bee in the City Trail
Join us to launch the Bee in the City Trail and celebrate the wonder of bees! Join the University of Manchester bee artist Kate Eggleston-Wirtz for bee related making activities.


National Play Day
Wednesday 1 August, 11am – 3pm

On top of our Playtime games and interventions, design and make your own kite with artist Harriet Hall to fly in our park. 



Whitworth Young Contemporaries 


WYC Makes
Thursdays, 2 – 4pm throughout August

Creative, hands on workshops for 11-16 year olds. Join artist Helen Newman and be inspired by the Whitworth’s collection.

WYC Summer Songwriters
31 July and Tuesdays throughout August, 11.30am – 2.30pm

Join Billy and Andy’s Music School for accessible music workshops for young adults (16 – 25) with additional needs. Explore exciting and accessible ways of writing original material, learn how to use music software to record songs and be inspired by a wide range of musicians.
