Outdoor Programme
“Visitors should be able to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors as a counterpoint to what is within.” Margaret Pilkington, Director of the Whitworth, 1935-58
Founded in 1889 as the first English gallery in a park, the Whitworth is a green oasis on the edge of the city centre – a place to learn, play and enjoy art, indoors and out. Our outdoor programme takes our work outside, into the Whitworth Park, whatever the weather.

Natural Cultural Health Service
The Whitworth is open again and we're very happy to welcome you back to the gallery and park.
We're aiming to run most of our regular NCHS sessions, outdoors, in the gallery's Art Garden, Alex Bernstein Garden, and Whitworth Park. A few of our sessions will continue to take place, via zoom, online.
