Fun Family Resources

The gallery is busting with creative activities and resources to pick up and enjoy for all ages from babies to grandparents. These include the Art Cart, dressing up clothes, a textile trail, story and sculpture sacks and much more.

Treasure Baskets

Treasure Baskets are designed for babies and young children and filled with everyday objects to encourage them to explore different shapes, sounds, colours, weights, smells and textures.

Animal Hunt Story Sacks

Find animals such as Little Hen and Squirrel in the Textile Gallery and use the resources to help tell their stories. Sacks include books, puppets, songs/rhymes, drawing and making activities and importantly a comfy mat to enjoy your story on.  Suitable for arty adventurers under 5.

Little Explorers/Discovery Sacks

Use your discovery sacks, filled with multi-sensory objects and guidance notes to help you explore different themes, including Colour, Sight and Artworks in the gallery adventure
Suitable for under 7s.

Sculpture Sacks

Enjoy exploring sculpture both inside and outside of the gallery in the gallery grounds (weather allowing).  Get creative and try to balance a parts of tree trunk to create sculpture and try to draw it before it topples and create your own sculpture to take home.  The bag also includes a picnic mat so if it's nice why not enjoy a picnic in the gallery grounds while creating your sculpture.  If you don't want to bring your own picnic the Gallery Café does great family friendly food.
Suitable for children 5 and over.

Textile Gallery

The newly refurbished Textile Gallery displays fabrics from around the world.  It has a fun hands-on resource that includes children's costumes for dressing up, and different fabric to touch and compare.  There is a range of textile related art activities from weaving to designing costumes for your very own finger puppet. Come in, get creative and take home your own handiwork.
Suitable for all ages.

Textile Trail

The Textile Trail is a fun explorers guide developed by Year 5 pupils from Didsbury Primary School for other children and their families. It's a great way to explore the Textile Collection and includes quizzes, stories and an animal hunt.
