Unchosen Film Festival

A week of film screenings for young people about children employed in the world’s textile industries.

Unchosen Film Festival: Student Screening

I Am Slave is directed by Gabriel Range and has been chosen by students to be screened for Unchosen Film Festival. The film tells the story of one woman's fight for freedom from modern-day slavery.

Action Weaving

Learn to weave and participate in a weaving ‘race’, supervised by Travis Meinolf, Action Weaver.

COTTON: Global Threads, Tour
Saturday 21 April, 1.15pm, free
Take a look around the exhibition COTTON: Global Threads with curator Jennifer Harris. Examining India’s extensive global trade networks with exhibits that range from the late Middle Ages to the present day, this exhibition takes a provocative look at cotton's 'dirty secrets' - its human and environmental impact, and engages in a dialogue about these themes through the work of seven contemporary artists.

Talk: Anna Arabindan-Kesson

Networks of Labour: Representing Cotton in 19th-Century America
Anna Arabindan-Kesson will examine some of the ways that representations of cotton in 19th-century American art were shaped by the creation of labour networks between different spaces, such as the relationship between the plantation and the factory.
Anna is a PhD candidate in History of Art and African-American Studies at Yale University, USA.

Taking inspiration from action weaver Travis Meinolf, join us for an evening of interesting and unique performances that intertwine themselves into our exhibitions and spaces.

Crafternoon Tea Party

Join us as Manchester Craft & Design Centre takeover our popular Crafternoon Tea workshops with this special event. Drop in to the Whitworth for a cup of tea, slice of cake and some crafty activities in a fun and friendly atmosphere.
