Prints
The Whitworth Art Gallery possesses one of the largest and most important print collections in the country, outside London, and certainly the finest in the north of England. The collection comprises 14,000 single sheet prints and 500 illustrated books, and includes works dating from the origins of European printmaking in the mid-15th century through to the present day. In terms of geographical spread, the holdings consist predominantly of British and Continental European works, with smaller groups of Japanese and American prints. Considered together, the collections of Prints and Modern Art give the Whitworth one of the most important collections of modern works of art on paper in the country, outside London.
